City Prompts Residents and All Parties to Reduce Stunting Rates

The Jakarta Provincial Government is aggressively making various intervention efforts to reduce stunting rates in Jakarta.

At that time, Jakarta Acting Governor, Heru Budi Hartono attended a stunting prevention socialization activity and provided an understanding of nationalism as an instrument in maintaining the quality of nutrition in children, in Kalibaru, Cilincing, North Jakarta.

He was accompanied by Jakarta Empowerment, Child Protection, and Population Control (PPAPP) Sub-agency Head, Tuty Kusunawati; North Jakarta Mayor, Ali Maulana Hakim; Brimob Corps Deputy Commander, Setyo Boedi Moempoeni Harso; as well as Pancasila Ideology Education (BPIP) Agency Chairman, Rima Agristina.

He appreciated the activities initiated by the National Disaster Population and Family Agency (BKKBN) and the Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) Corps.

"I express my gratitude and appreciation to (BKKBN and Mako Brimob) that are willing to work with Jakarta in preventing stunting from rising in Jakarta. As known, the number of stunting figures in North Jakarta is around 700. We know this when we visited the West Semper area, Cilincing, North Jakarta, with a success (decrease in stunting) of 17 percent," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release, Tuesday (2/7).

Aside that, Heru prompted all parties to work together, including the government, private sector, and all residents, in preventing and minimizing the increase in stunting rates.

"I urge all residents to help (by maintaining health and nutritional intake since pregnancy), as the birth process, both mother and child must be healthy. I believe that every stakeholder involved can work on preventing stunting. Hopefully, pregnant women could always maintain their health with adequate nutrition for giving birth to healthy children as the next generation of this nation," he explained.

BKKBN Head, Hasto Wardoyo explained according to President Joko' Jokowi' Widodo's direction during the BKKBN National Working Meeting (Rakernas) some time ago, inviting entrepreneurs on the island of Java to work together in efforts to reduce stunting. The large population on the island of Java would become a national barometer for reducing stunting rates.

"This is the President's main concern and his direction is to move the role of society in synergy. That's why mutual cooperation is important. Then, Insya Allah (Thank God), in Jakarta, Today's stunting is as desired by President Joko Widodo, which is around 14%," he concluded.

At the end of the event, social aid was handed over to 150 heads of families in Kalibaru who had toddlers. Additionally, the BKKBN Head also confirmed public figures Paula Verhoeven and Asri Welas as the Foster Mothers of national stunting prevention.
